Before and After

THE REDESIGN CHALLENGE:

Amesika inherited many beautiful pieces of jewelry from her mother-in-law. She was so thrilled that she was honored with this treasured gift however, she also knew that some of the styles of the pieces did not suit Amesika’s personal style.

In order for the jewelry to shine its brightest and do what it was meant to do — be worn! — Amesika came to us to use the stones to create not one, but two new jewelry pieces from the ones from her mother-in-law.

Amesika particularly liked the large tourmaline stone from a ring from her mother-in-law, however, she envisioned it on a simple, bold, and geometric pendant.

Additionally, Amesika wanted to use the diamonds from her mother-in-law’s jewelry to create another piece that was totally different: delicate cluster stud earrings for everyday wear.

Although these two pieces Amesika wanted were very different, they both are very within the style Studio Remod loves to do and we were excited to offer her two pieces that were both similar and different and were exactly what she wanted with the gems provided and the requests Amesika sent to us.

THE REDESIGN PROCESS

initial sketches

Although Amesika wanted one bold piece of jewelry and one delicate pair of earrings, we were very excited by the modern, geometric styles that she was interested in that are our specialty here at Studio Remod.

For the pendant we offered a very modern design with a sleek, industrial style that is at once bold while still featuring delicate lines matched with a high-impact use of the tourmaline as the visual centerpiece.

For the diamond earrings, we offered two sketches — both were studs that clustered the diamonds, however one was a more traditional “circular” cluster while the other featured a cluster more similar to a ear-crawler earring design. Amesika selected the more geometric cluster and we were happy to get to work on creating these designs for her so they were both ready to wear.

Rhino modeling

For both the pendant and the earrings, it was important to make sure that the stones that we already had from her existing pieces would fit into the casting for the new jewelry. Rhino modeling helped us to measure the right size of stones to build the proper amount of metal surrounding them so that, when casting, the stones would be secure in their settings.

Casting

Once we received the casting for both of the pieces, we could see that the stones would set perfectly and that we had enough metal to make both the earrings and the pendant.

The finished jewelry

We were so excited to bring Amesika these two new pieces of jewelry — one delicate and small and the other bold and big. Although the pieces did not need to be worn together, we liked how they both featured similarities despite their differences: modern, geometric designs with playful elements. Amesika particularly liked how the earrings could be worn in different ways, with the ability to have each ear worn differently for the trendy asymmetrical, mis-matched look.
