When Priya came to us to create her brother’s 22k yellow gold ring with the large yellow topaz, she had one more special piece in mind — her own ring.
Like her brother’s ring, this piece would also incorporate inherited family jewelry, along with several meaningful pieces she had collected over the years. What immediately stood out to me was how clear and unique her vision already was. As a jewelry designer, I’ve designed countless pieces over the years, and sometimes it’s easy to fall into familiar aesthetics or repeated design languages. Working with Priya was incredibly refreshing because her ideas came from a completely different perspective — not from the jewelry industry, but from her own personal imagination and emotional connection to the piece. My role became refining her ideas technically and aesthetically to help bring them fully to life.

Sketches
She envisioned a larger center diamond surrounded by smaller accent diamonds, with slightly larger round diamonds on the sides paired with marquise-shaped blue sapphires to create a floral, wing-like cluster composition. It was unlike anything I had previously designed. With careful refinement, thoughtful proportions, and detailed finishing work, we were able to transform her concept into a beautifully unique ring.
Texture was also a very important element to Priya. She loved the idea of adding handcrafted details throughout the piece, including milgrain around all of the bezels and a bark-like texture along the shank. One of the most meaningful design elements for her was a lotus engraving placed on the side of the ring, with a small diamond set at the center of the lotus. We blackened the engraved lines to create a strong contrast, allowing the lotus motif to stand out clearly against the rich warmth of the 20k yellow gold. Combined with the deep blue sapphires, the contrast brought so much life and character into the design.
Comfort was equally important to her. She didn’t want the stones set too high or the ring to feel overly elevated on the finger. She wanted it to feel natural, wearable, and comfortable enough for everyday use without anything protruding too much.

Rhino modeling
Once the sketch was approved, I built the design in Rhino CAD, carefully checking every stone placement, ensuring all the textures translated properly into production, and lowering the settings as much as technically possible while maintaining durability and beauty.

Casting
When the casting came back, I immediately felt we were heading in the right direction. The textures translated beautifully, the proportions felt balanced, and the ring sat comfortably and naturally on the finger. At that point, I felt confident the final piece would truly reflect Priya’s vision — especially the details that mattered most to her: texture, comfort, symbolism, and individuality.

With such a distinctive design language, I knew this ring would become a true statement piece.
When the ring was finally completed, I couldn’t wait to present it to her alongside her brother’s ring. Working on both pieces simultaneously required an incredible amount of attention and detail, but it was also such an honor to create these meaningful heirlooms for her and her family. I could feel how much emotional value these rings carried for them, and it made me proud to be part of something they would cherish for generations and eventually pass down to future family members.
Priya absolutely loved the finished ring and couldn’t stop looking at it. When she presented both rings to her family, everyone was deeply impressed by her piece and showered her with compliments. Hearing how much her family appreciated the work made me feel incredibly honored and grateful.
Experiences like this remind me why I love creating custom jewelry. Seeing how deeply meaningful these pieces become for people — and how much joy they can bring — gives my work purpose beyond simply making jewelry. There was a time when I questioned whether jewelry was truly necessary or whether I was simply designing collections for my own creative ego. Over time, I felt myself drifting away from my passion for jewelry design. But once I began focusing on custom work, I rediscovered why I fell in love with this craft in the first place. Creating deeply personal pieces that carry emotion, history, and connection — and seeing how much happiness they bring to people — has been one of the most fulfilling decisions of my career.
