Jewelry Redesign Story #4: The Collaborative Redesign
The Redesign Challenge:
Anna is an astute jewelry buyer but not an artist or a designer. She bought this 31.63 Oval citrine stone from an online auction. With just a stone, Anna knew she wanted to give some input on a piece of custom jewelry. Anna knew she wanted to make the stone into a cocktail ring (her favorite) but she needed to build out the piece into more than just a gem.
Anna was very excited to find Studio Remod as she is based in New York City and was excited to drop off the stone in-person as well as bring her own ideas to the redesign process. In our initial phone discussion Anna even mentioned that she had some sketches her own and was excited to have a custom jewelry piece similar to her design ideas.

The Redesign Process:
We were able to work with the stone in our offices and to create some custom design options that were refined versions of Anna’s original sketches. We created a couple of designs — one with a single scalloped basket and one with two, both with 12 prongs and with different shank details.
Anna ended up choosing the double basket, per our suggestion, to house the very large citrine stone. Because of the size of the stone it was quite the architectural design process to make sure that the stone would be securely housed in the basket.
Once Anna decided on the yellow gold for the ring and the basket we were able to finalize our designs and create the 3D model and wax casting.
Finally we had the piece manufactured and set and polished the stone before Anna was ready to pick up her custom-made collaborated jewelry from us.
The Redesign Revealed:
Anna was so excited to come pick up the piece in-person at our NYC office. It was a special case for everyone to be able to see the piece on the happy customer and have them walk out wearing it! Anna was so happy to be able to have something with her own personal touch custom made just for her.
