EWELRY REDESIGN STORY #82: A Gift for My Wife
THE REDESIGN CHALLENGE:
Sandy approached us with two rings: a family heirloom he inherited from his parents, featuring numerous baguette diamonds and a striking center emerald diamond set in substantial 14k white gold. This ring provided ample material for his redesign project. He also brought in his wife’s yellow gold ring, which featured a pear-shaped stone. Sandy envisioned creating a new ring for her by combining the center emerald diamond from the heirloom with the pear-shaped stone. Previously, we crafted four pairs of baguette diamond earrings for Sandy, showcasing his attention to family and meaningful gifts.
Sandy’s wife cherished her original engagement ring, making this an ideal opportunity for Sandy to upgrade her ring with the beautiful emerald diamond. Ultimately, she ended up loving her new ring just as much as the original.
THE REDESIGN CONCEPT:
Sketches
Final Sketch
After receiving Sandy's request online, I initially focused on designing a solitaire emerald diamond ring. However, during our video consultation, I learned he wanted to incorporate both the pear-shaped stone and the emerald diamond. This led me to create various sketches featuring different settings, including square prongs, claw prongs, V-prongs, and bezel designs. Through collaborative feedback with Sandy and his wife, we settled on a combination of square, claw, and V-prong settings. Sandy's wife preferred a clean, contemporary look without excessive embellishments.
THE REDESIGN PROCESS:
Rhino modeling
Once the design was finalized, I used Rhino CAD to ensure the shank was wide and thick enough to support the two large stones, achieving a modern and streamlined aesthetic.
Casting
When the casting was complete, the ring displayed the ideal width, thickness, and weight. It was finally time to set the diamonds!

The final ring turned out to be stunningly beautiful and modern, just as Sandy’s wife envisioned. We were thrilled to create this special piece for her, and seeing her joy with her new ring brought us immense satisfaction.
Material: (1) Emerald diamond in square prongs setting and (1) pear-shaped stone in claw and V-prong setting in 14k yellow gold.
