JEWELRY REDESIGN STORY #92: A WEDDING BAND BUILT TO NEST
THE REDESIGN CHALLENGE:
Last year, we redesigned Frannie's engagement ring, transforming her grandmother's diamond into the delicate, twisted-rope ring she'd always dreamed of. This year, she came back to us for the next chapter: a wedding band. Not just any band, though — one built specifically to sit alongside her engagement ring, matching its character and curve exactly.
THE REDESIGN CONCEPT:
Sketches
Frannie knew she wanted texture — a vine and leaf engraving running along the band, echoing the same delicate, feminine spirit as her engagement ring. I suggested curving the band itself, rather than keeping it straight, so it could nest naturally against the engagement ring's twisted shank instead of sitting awkwardly beside it. We sketched several vine-and-leaf options within that curved shape, and Frannie fell in love with one right away.
THE REDESIGN PROCESS:
Rhino CAD
Getting the curve exactly right in Rhino CAD was the most important part of this build — even a small miscalculation would mean the two rings wouldn't sit flush together. I modeled renderings showing precisely how the wedding band and engagement ring would nest side by side before finalizing anything, checking the fit again and again until it was right.
Casting
Once I was confident, I finalized the file and sent it out for casting in 14k yellow gold. It came back with the vine and leaf engraving crisp and clean, the curve holding its shape beautifully.
THE REDESIGN REVEAL:

The finished band came out exactly as we'd hoped — delicate, detailed, and built to fit. On her hand, it already looks wonderful. I haven't seen a photo of the two rings worn together yet, but Frannie wrote to me right after receiving it:
"The ring is gorgeous, thank you so so much."
There's something special about being trusted with a second chapter like this — not remaking something old, but building something entirely new to complete a piece we made together before.
