Before and After

THE REDESIGN CHALLENGE:

Liana is a Weather Channel host and broadcast personality who wants her jewelry to shine off the screen as much as she does on the screen. Liana came to us with lots of sentimental jewelry pieces as well as her engagement ring for a two-piece jewelry redesign. We came up with a completely new and elaborate engagement ring design for her to celebrate her move to the West Coast and, to complement that ring, Liana also wanted a right-hand heart-shaped ruby ring that would strike a visual balance with her engagement ring with a bold and contemporary style. Although her engagement ring really popped and Liana didn’t want to overwhelm the momentous emotionality of the ring, Liana also wanted her right-hand heart-shaped-ruby ring to be a bit bigger and wider than her other all-diamond engagement ring.

Once again, the redesign process was slowed by the onset of the COVID-19 Epidemic. However, we were able to strongly communicate any design and production delays to Liana and utilize the extra time in the brainstorming phase of the process to make sure that she got something she was truly in love with.

THE REDESIGN PROCESS:

Initial Sketch Images

Liana originally wanted a simple ring with a centered bezel-set ruby. We started by showing her a number of different options with different size bands. With a design such as this one, whose jewels came from Liana’s previous jewelry but whose band needed to be made completely fresh from new metals, the price points could vary wildly depending on the size of the band Liana would choose for her design.

Liana decided that she preferred a bigger band and decided to go one step further by adding a number of diamonds that would be set around the ruby throughout the band.

Two different options for the in-band diamond settings with same-sized diamonds (Top) and different-sized diamonds (Bottom).

We offered Liana two options for the diamond setting, one with uniformly sized diamonds throughout the band and one with different sizes of diamonds that lent the ring a more diamond look. Liana loved the bigger, bolder, and more dramatic design with the different shaped diamonds set throughout the band.

The final jewelry

The final ring was both romantic and contemporary. Although we had started out with a fairly simple design that wouldn’t overwhelm the design of Liana’s new engagement ring, we ended up with something a bit more dramatic that still complemented the engagement ring for a two-handed jewelry look to wow Weather Channel viewers, her husband, and Liana herself.

Liana received her new ruby ring (along with her new engagement ring) right before she moved to the West Coast to live with her husband. Liana is thrilled with how well the two pieces go together and loves wearing them in her new home.
