Jewelry Redesign Story #8: Something For Mom
BEFORE AND AFTER
THE REDESIGN CHALLENGE:
Soojung wanted to make a custom ring for her mother’s birthday and wanted it to be a ring that her mother could wear both every day and on special occasions. What better way to show her mother that she cares?
Soojung knew that the ring would be in yellow gold for its known health benefits including better circulation and promotion of body detoxing. Soojung also had some champagne diamonds that she wanted to include in the piece although she knew that she also wanted to add some other gemstones to make it a colorful cluster.
THE REDESIGN PROCESS:
Once Soojung had decided on the colorful cluster design, we had to find the right collection of gems that would match Soojung’s needs and look aesthetic together.
We were super excited to find an amethyst cab, tear shaped ruby, and a round emerald to go with the champagne diamonds. We also added some white diamonds for, what else, the sparkle!

THE REDESIGN PROCESS:
Once we found the colorful gems we were able to fully create a design that incorporated the specific colors and shapes of the jewels we were planning on working with.
Once we had a finalized sketch we were able to move forward with the 3D CAD design and finally the 3D printing and casting.

We chose a claw prong setting for the center stone, bezel settings for the surrounding stones, and a bright-cut setting for the shank.
Once the base casting was ready we could set the stones and polish before showing Soojung her final custom ring for her mother.
THE REDESIGN REVEAL:
Soojung loved the ring and how the collaboration of colors showed both loyalty, health, and vitality that would look great on a regular day as well as bright and colorful on special occasions. She knew her mother would love it. That means we loved it too.
