Cameron and Haley are high school sweethearts who have been together for years so they were excited to take the next step in their lives: marriage. To honor the years that they’ve spent, and will continue to spend, together, they wanted to make a ring that means a lot to them and their shared values, histories, and aesthetic tastes.
Haley had some pieces of jewelry from her family and some pieces from Cameron’s family. As they were, finally, blending these families, they wanted to use the diamonds from these heritage pieces as well as to purchase a lab-grown diamond as the centerpiece stone that would suit their ethical beliefs. They also agreed that they did not want to have a big diamond as the focus for their ring.
Sketches
To honor Cameron and Haley’s wishes, we decided to purchase a 0.7 carat oval, lab-grown diamond with high color and clarity. Especially with a lab-grown diamond, a smaller stone can be just as glorious!
Once we had this stone to work with, we were able to start designing Haley’s ring. After providing her with a number of design concepts to choose from.
Diamonds Arrangement
Haley ended up liking this romantic, asymmetrical, clustery diamond ring. Once we had decided on that style, we were able to offer her a few different designs in this style that included the placement of the diamonds that was based on the size of the new lab-grown diamond as well as the diamonds that were sourced from the pieces that Haley and Cameron had brought to us from their families’ collections.
It was at this point that we began to only communicate with Cameron, as Haley wanted the final ring design to be a surprise. We love a romantic gesture like this, based in mutual understanding and appreciation, so we were more than happy to oblige!
Rhino modeling
With Cameron’s approval and the proper dimensions lined up, we were ready to start the design. First we completed a Rhino CAD model, which made sure that all of our placements and measurements were correct so that the final ring would come together like a perfect puzzle.
Casting
We used this CAD design to create the casting. With this casting we were able to check that all the stones we had fit perfectly into the base and we were ready to set and finalize the ring and hand it off to the happy groom-to-be Cameron.

We met up with Cameron at a bar to hand off the ring and to celebrate the completion of their design and upcoming engagement. Over a lovely and flowery cocktail, Cameron told us how much he loved the ring and shared with us some of his romantic ideas for his secret proposal to Haley (which we’ll keep a secret here!).
We believe -- and so does Cameron -- that Haley will love the ring and he can’t wait to use it to surprise her with a proposal and begin the rest of their lives together.
Good luck with the proposal Cameron!
