Jewelry Redesign Story #66: Everyday Emeralds
THE REDESIGN CHALLENGE:
Debbie came to us with jewelry passed down from her mother: her mother’s diamond wedding ring and a number of pieces of jewelry featuring emerald stones. Both Debbie and her mother share emerald as their birthstone and, because of this, Debbie always cherished these stones that she felt connected them. Debbie also loved that she could hold on to a piece of her mother with her cherished wedding ring.
In order to bring these jewelry items into her everyday style and wear, Debbie came to us looking for a jewelry redesign that would more closely align with her tastes. Debbie is a big fan of white metal and lean towards modern, organic and simple designs. With these frameworks and design aesthetics in mind, we set out to create an everyday ring featuring the emeralds and diamonds.
THE REDESIGN CONCEPT
Sketches
We drafted some sketches of cluster rings or pendant necklaces for Debbie that utilized the emeralds and diamonds. We liked that with the cluster aesthetic, the emeralds would look like leaves on a tree without requiring too complex of design work. With this design, we hoped to offer a new piece of jewelry that looked both organic and simple and, of course, featured white metal and the cherished stones Debbie inherited from her mother.
Debbie loved the designs and ended up choosing a ring with an organic asymmetrical cluster featuring marquise emeralds and round diamonds.
THE REDESIGN PROCESS:
Rhino modeling
Once Debbie had decided on a design, we set about working on the Rhino CAD model so we could make sure that the design and cluster layout we created would match with the dimensions of the stones that were available to us from Debbie’s mother’s jewelry pieces that we were using for the redesign.
Casting
After everything was settled in our Rhino model, we were able to create our casting. Once this was ready, we knew that everything looked perfect and we were ready to set the emerald stones and diamonds that we chose for this design.

We loved how the finished ring turned out — both gorgeous and modern just as Debbie requested. Personally, I was extra pleased with this ring as emerald happens to be my personal favorite stone. We love being able to bring new life to cherished stones for everyday wear for our clients and we can’t wait to have Debbie enjoy this piece daily.
Material: 6 marquise emeralds in a prong setting, 4 round diamonds in a prong setting in 14k white gold
