Daniel came to us looking to make a new bridal set for his wife in honor of their 8th anniversary. Daniel also wanted to use his parents’ wedding ring, a thick gold band with smaller set diamonds, as the base material for his new set. Daniel wanted to create a classic bridal set with a large solitaire diamond ring and a smaller diamond set band using the gold melted down from his parents’ ring.
Daniel’s request was not without meaning. Daniel was especially interested in using his parents’ wedding ring because of their divorce. He wanted to use their ring as a symbol within the new set to showcase the strength of the love he and his wife have for each other and that they can create something new, and stronger, than the dissolved marriage of his parents.
initial sketches
Daniel was certain that he wanted a bridal set that was both classic and timeless. We figured a large-stone solitaire ring matched with a smaller stone band, using the gold from his parents’ ring, would be the perfect sophisticated bridal set, the kind that never goes out of style.
The large diamond
In order to create the solitaire ring, we had to source a diamond for Daniel to feature on the new ring. We were so happy to find this perfect 1.01 carat diamond with a GIA (Gem Institute of America) certificate. We knew that this stone would be a stunning centerpiece for the simple and traditional solitaire ring.
Rhino modeling
Once we had acquired all the materials needed for the new set, we were ready to build our 3D Rhino model to make sure everything would come together without a hitch once we began casting and setting. We needed to make sure that all the stones would fit into the settings we had designed as well as to be certain that we had enough metals. Even though we would be melting down the gold from Daniel’s parents’ ring, we had to account for what could be lost in the jewelry-making process.
Casting
We had both of the rings cast and were happy to see that we would have enough metal and that all of the prongs and settings looked to be correct. With that we were ready to build the final jewelry pieces and set the stones.
New rings set
Both Daniel and his wife loved the simple and classic set as a way to celebrate their love, their anniversary, and their strength. They know that the bridal set, just like their relationship, is timeless.
