THE REDESIGN CHALLENGE:

Simone approached us with two beautiful diamond rings that she inherited from her grandmother. These rings provided a wonderful opportunity for redesign, thanks to their rich gold and diamond content. We had previously shared the story of her new cluster earrings, and now Simone aimed to create two charming diamond pieces—one for herself and a special gift for her mom. As she planned her wedding for this year, Simone wanted to present her mother with a thoughtful and custom-made diamond charm that would symbolize their bond, making it a perfect way for them to celebrate this significant occasion together.

THE REDESIGN CONCEPT:

During our initial discussions, Simone had two diamonds: one larger and one smaller. She initially considered setting the larger diamond in a 6-prong setting and the smaller one in a bezel setting. However, after further consultation, she decided to unify the design by opting for a delicate 6-prong setting for both diamonds. With a few gold chains at her disposal, she intended to use her existing chains while ensuring that the charms could easily detach, allowing her the flexibility to wear the chain with or without the charms as she wished.

THE REDESIGN PROCESS:

Rhino modeling

To facilitate this design, my Rhino modeling process focused on creating a bail large enough to allow the charms to be easily attached or removed from the chain mechanism. I also needed to design the prongs to ensure they were strong enough to secure the diamonds while maintaining an elegant look.

Casting

Once the casting was completed, I was delighted with the outcome. The prongs had the ideal balance of strength and delicacy, while the bails complemented the overall design. Before finalizing, I ensured the charms fit perfectly on Simone's chains.
